Sympathy is expressed to Phil and Kathy Menning on the passing of Kathy’s dad, Ray Beckering. The funeral was on Wednesday. Sympathy is also expressed to Jerold and Sophie Schoolmeester on the
passing of Sophie’s brother Roger Veldhuizen. Memorial services will be August 29, 2018 in Waterloo, IA.
9th-12th graders: Youth group is starting up this fall! We are going to kick off with a Bowling Party! Wednesday, September 12th. Meal at church starts at 6:15. We will leave at 6:30 to go bowling. You will only need to bring money for any snacks you want. Looking forward to kicking off a new year, bring your friends!
Pigs-in-the-blanket: September 2017-May 2018 Report: We made them 20 times with proceeds of $9,389. This goes towards 2 mission shares and pays for all the Bibles given out in church for 3rd graders, Profession of Faith, and Baptism. A special thank you to all the ladies (and Pastor) who helped make Pigs. Also thank you to all that bought and especially the ladies that sell them. Come and join us as we start again. This will be our 40th session. We will start tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. and finish them on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
Spiritual Sponsors: Our recent high school graduates will soon be preparing for college or career and we are asking for sponsors to offer prayer support and encouragement to these students. Graduates from the class of 2017 and 2018 are posted in the library. Consider sponsoring a student in prayer through these years of transition from teen to young adult.
Prison Ministry: We will be attending worship at Cornerstone Prison Church on Friday evening,
September 14. If you plan to attend please have your clearance forms in by Sunday, August 26. If you already have a clearance form from the past year and plan to attend let Jeff or Pastor Mark know. If you have any questions contact Jeff Snyder or Pastor Mark.
Freezer Meals: We will be doing freezer meals on September 22. The sign up sheet and list of meals is in the entry. A deposit of $125 is due by September 8. We will again be doing extra meals for shut ins.
The MINN-IA-Kota retreat will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at First Reformed Church, Sioux Center, IA. There are registration forms on the back table in the narthex. The
pre-registration deadline is August 24.
Please mark your calendars! Mark Schultz is coming to Luverne on Wednesday, September 19th in concert at the American Reformed Church at 7:30pm. This would make a great youth outing! Tickets are available at the church office, at WildFlowers Coffee Boutique, and online at https://www.itickets.com/events/395155. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Proceeds will benefit the Luverne Child Guide Program and the Luverne Backpack Program. Doors open at 6:30 PM. I would highly recommend purchasing tickets in advance to ensure your youth group has seats.
