Creation or Chaos? | 5 Day Devotional on Genesis 1:1-2:3
This 5-day devotional is based on the message Creation or Chaos? from Genesis 1:1–2:3. In this passage, we see that God is, that He creates by the power of His word, and that His creation is marked by order, not chaos.
These readings are designed to help you reflect on God as Creator, the meaning of being made in His image, and the hope of new creation in Jesus Christ.
Day 1: The Eternal God
📖 Scripture: Isaiah 40:21-28
💡 Reflection: We struggle to understand a God who has no beginning, but Scripture doesn’t try to prove Him—it declares Him. The Lord is everlasting. He does not grow weary, and He does not fade with time. While everything in our lives changes, God remains the same. That means our hope is not tied to circumstances, but to the One who always is.
🙏 Prayer: Everlasting God, help me to rest in who you are. When life feels uncertain, remind me that you do not change. Strengthen my trust in you. Amen.
Day 2: Created by His Word
📖 Scripture: Psalm 33:6–12
💡 Reflection: God speaks, and creation obeys. The heavens, the earth, and all that fills them exist because of His word. This reminds us that God’s Word is not passive—it is powerful. The same voice that called light into existence still speaks today. When God speaks, He accomplishes His purposes.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, your Word is powerful and sure. Help me to listen, trust, and live according to what you have spoken. Amen.
Day 3: A World of Order
📖 Scripture: Colossians 1:15–17
💡 Reflection: The world is not held together by chance. Christ sustains all things. What looks chaotic to us is not outside of His rule. From the smallest detail to the vastness of creation, everything is upheld by Him. This gives us confidence that our lives are not random—they are held together by Christ Himself.
🙏 Prayer: Lord Jesus, you hold all things together. When my life feels uncertain, remind me that you are in control and nothing is outside your care. Amen.
Day 4: Made In His Image
📖 Scripture: Genesis 9:1–7
💡 Reflection: Even after the fall, God reaffirms the value of human life. Why? Because we are made in His image. This truth shapes how we see ourselves and others. Every person we encounter bears that image. That means our lives have dignity, purpose, and responsibility—to reflect God in how we live.
🙏 Prayer: Father, thank you for creating me in your image. Help me to honor you in how I live and in how I treat others. Amen.
Day 5: New Creation in Christ
📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:1–10
💡 Reflection: Sin brought disorder and death into the world, but God did not leave us there. Just as He created the world by His word, He creates new life in us through Christ. Salvation is not something we build—it is something God brings into being. We are His workmanship, created anew for His purposes.
🙏 Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for giving me new life in Christ. Help me to walk in the good works you have prepared for me. Amen.
