It Is He | Revelation 19:11-21 | 5 Devotions on the Judge Who Is Our Savior
The vision of Christ in Revelation 19 is both awe-inspiring and deeply comforting. He appears as the Faithful and True Judge—righteous, powerful, and victorious. Yet for those who belong to Him, His coming is not a source of fear but of peace, because the Judge who comes is also the one who was judged in our place.
These five short devotions are drawn from Pastor Mark Groen’s sermon “It Is He” on Revelation 19:11–21. Each day invites you to reflect on Christ’s righteousness, His redeeming blood, the power of His Word, and the unshakable confidence believers have in His victory.
Day 1: The Faithful and True Judge
📖 Scripture: Revelation 19:11-13
💡 Reflection: When John sees heaven opened, he doesn’t find a distant deity but a righteous Judge riding forth. This is not a “new Jesus”—it’s the same Savior who once rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, now revealed in His glory. His judgment is not arbitrary or cruel; it is righteous and true. For those in Christ, the One who comes to judge is the very One who bore judgment for us. His justice means the world will not remain broken forever—and that is good news for weary believers.
🙏 Prayer: Righteous Lord Jesus, you are faithful and true in all your ways. Thank you that your judgment is perfect and your righteousness never fails. Teach me to rest in the comfort that you are both my Judge and my Redeemer. Amen.
Day 2: The Blood That Brings Confidence
📖 Scripture: Hebrews 9:11-14
💡 Reflection: In Revelation 19, the rider’s robe is dipped in blood. Many think of it as the blood of His enemies, but Scripture teaches it is His own. The same blood that was shed on Calvary now marks His royal garments. His blood means we no longer face condemnation—it is the evidence that judgment has already been poured out on Him in our place. Therefore, when we see the imagery of judgment in Revelation, we can have peace, not terror. His blood speaks a better word than fear; it speaks of forgiveness.
🙏 Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you that your blood was shed for me. When I am tempted to fear your return or doubt your mercy, remind me that the price has already been paid. Fill me with confidence and gratitude for your finished work. Amen.
Day 3: The Power of His Word
📖 Scripture: Isaiah 55:10-11
💡 Reflection: John describes a sharp sword coming from the mouth of Christ—a picture of His Word’s power. The same Word that spoke creation into being now speaks life into dead hearts and judgment over sin. Jesus doesn’t need armies or weapons to secure victory; His Word is enough. When the church proclaims the gospel faithfully, that same living Word continues its work—bringing salvation, sanctifying believers, and assuring us that God’s purposes will not fail.
🙏 Prayer: Lord, your Word is living and active. Let it pierce my heart and shape my life. Help me to trust that your Word is enough to conquer sin, sustain faith, and bring your kingdom to completion. Amen.
Day 4: The Victory That Cannot Be Overturned
📖 Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:24–26
💡 Reflection: Revelation 19 shows the total defeat of Christ’s enemies. The powers that seemed unshakable—beast, false prophet, kings, and nations—fall in a moment before the King of Kings. This is the comfort the persecuted church needed in the first century, and the comfort we need now. Evil may appear to reign for a time, but its end is certain. The victory of Christ cannot be reversed or appealed. The Judge of all the earth will do what is right—and He will win.
🙏 Prayer: Sovereign Lord, remind me that your victory is sure. When I see the world in chaos or evil seeming to prosper, anchor my heart in your unshakable reign. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords forever. Amen.
Day 5: Be Still and Know
📖 Scripture: Psalm 46:8–11
💡 Reflection: Revelation 19 and Psalm 46 echo one another: the God who conquers His enemies is the same God who is our refuge and strength. His victory is not meant to terrify His people but to calm them. “Be still” is not a gentle whisper here—it’s a divine command to the raging nations and to anxious hearts alike. Stop striving. Christ has overcome. The Lord of hosts is with us, and the God of Jacob is our fortress.
🙏 Prayer: Almighty God, teach me to be still before you. Quiet my fears with the truth that you are exalted among the nations and in all the earth. Help me rest in the peace of Christ, my refuge and my strength. Amen.
