Devotions: Where Is Your Treasure?

Day 1: Luke 12:13-21 - The Parable of the Rich Fool

Devotional:

As we embark on this journey, we start with Jesus’ parable of the rich fool. This story is a sobering reminder of the temporality of earthly riches. Take a moment to reflect on your own pursuits. Are they grounded in the material world, or are they reaching for something eternal? Consider how you might shift your focus from accumulating wealth to cultivating a rich relationship with God.

Question for Reflection: In what ways can you be 'rich toward God' instead of storing up earthly treasures?

Day 2: Exodus 20:17 - The Tenth Commandment

Devotional:

The tenth commandment cautions us against coveting what is not ours. Covetousness can manifest in many forms, including the desire for material possessions or a certain lifestyle. Reflect on areas in your life where you might be harboring covetous thoughts. Pray for contentment and the strength to find satisfaction in what God has already provided.

Question for Reflection: How can you practice contentment and gratitude for the blessings you currently have?

Day 3: Matthew 6:19-21 - Treasures in Heaven

Devotional:

Jesus teaches us to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. Today, meditate on what it means to store up heavenly treasures. These are the acts of love, kindness, and faithfulness that have eternal significance. Consider how you can invest in the lives of others and in your relationship with God.

Question for Reflection: What 'heavenly treasures' are you investing in, and how does that impact your daily life?

Day 4: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 - Instructions for the Rich

Devotional:

In Paul's letter to Timothy, he provides instructions for those who are rich in this present world. As you read these verses, think about how you can use your resources, time, and talents to do good and to be generous. Wealth can be a tool for God's kingdom when used wisely and with a generous heart.

Question for Reflection: How can you use your God-given resources to serve others and support God’s work?

Day 5: Philippians 4:11-13 - Contentment in Christ

Devotional:

Paul speaks of contentment in every situation through the strength provided by Christ. Whether in times of abundance or need, we can find peace in God’s provision. As we close this week’s study, ask God to help you find true content contentment in Him, knowing that His grace is sufficient for all your needs.

Question for Reflection: How does relying on Christ's strength help you overcome the lure of materialism and find contentment?

Closing Prayer for the Week:

Heavenly Father, as we journey through Your Word this week, guide our hearts toward eternal riches. Teach us to find joy in simplicity and contentment in Your provision. May our lives reflect Your generosity as we learn to share with others and invest in Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
